Concepts

I explored various techniques and mediums, mainly chalk pastels and charcoal, to work out the style and look of film. With commissioned work I normally create animation digitally, so I wanted to go back to using a more ‘hands on’ raw approach.

Elephant Rock Swimming

Happy Yellow Fish -
This picture was based on my trip to the aquarium, where I was watching these two yellow fish do some kind of dance for ages. I then got a fright as two massive dark shark eyes had been watching me the whole time. The shark has been replaced with the Elephant.
The 2 images above are how I would like the film to look.

Tiger Fish. Would like to have lots of weird and wonderful creatures under the water
concept, liked the idea of having limited outline used on a texture / block of colour.

Next up will be story boarding development before looking into the possibility of further funding to finally get animating!

Story Thoughts

Timeline of shots with chosen soundtrack, 'The Blanket Set' by the harpist Rosie Morton. Can't seem to put music on blogspot, need to investigate further.

Research

Whilst designing the Vis-ta logo, we originally looked into Dumbaton’s Coat of Arms, which surprisingly was an elephant with a castle on it’s back - quite unusual to see an elephant representing any part of Scotland! One explanation for this was due to the elephant like shape of Dumbarton’s Rock

First Doodle.
Whilst in a meeting I drew the Dumbarton Rock from our studio's window - imagining what's underneath.
